#mobilitymondays EZ-Tri Classic X Bafang Electric…

There are times when customers bring in interesting bikes and inquire if it can be transformed into an electric assist machine without having to purchase a new one.

Take for instance this trike from SunSeeker Bicycles called the EZ-Tri Classic. As the owner of this vehicle is an older gentleman in his 70’s, a recumbent trike was an answer he thought possible due to his regressing balance as one moves up in age.

While some electric bicycle can see straight-forward in just attaching a battery to the frame, it is not that simple, especially with a trike that does not have an area to mount a rear rack.

One solution that was proposed was to mount the battery directly to the top-tube of the trike, but this would require some drilling to the frame, with the customers consent of course.

While the trike started out as a 21-speed with no assistance but from the rider, it has now been transformed into an electric-assisted machine with 5 levels of speed, much to the customers’ satisfaction. The act of drilling into one’s frame is not always my favorite solution, but in this case it seemed like the most logical method to achieve his wishes.

Crank-based motor and battery are from Bafang Electric
