Nelson Vails (BHM)

In recognition of Black History Month, Sirius Cycles will be featuring cyclists of color for the month of February.

Born: October 13, 1960
Height: 5ft. 9in. (1.75m)
Hometown: Harlem, New York

Nelson Beasley Vails is a retired road and track cyclist from the United States, a professional rider from 1988 to 1995. He represented the USA at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California, where he won the silver medal in the 1000m Match Sprint, behind countryman Mark Gorski.
Vails was also seen as a New York bicycle messenger in the movie Quicksilver. He didn’t just play a bicycle messenger in Quicksilver, he worked as one in New York City where he earned the nickname “The Cheetah.”
